The classic tale of survival, power, and chaos is coming to streaming screens once again. BBC has unveiled the official trailer for Lord of the Flies, a brand-new mini-series adaptation of William Golding’s iconic 1954 novel. Set in the early 1950s on an unnamed Pacific island, the series promises to be “truthful to the original novel,” exploring the darkest corners of human nature, the loss of innocence, and the complexities of boyhood masculinity.
The story follows a group of schoolboys stranded on a tropical island after a plane crash, with no adults in sight. Led by Ralph (Winston Sawyers) and guided intellectually by Piggy (David McKenna), the boys attempt to maintain order and civilisation. But when Jack (Lox Pratt) becomes obsessed with hunting and power, the fragile structure of their society begins to collapse, spiraling from playful adventure to tense violence and ultimate tragedy.
The ensemble cast is made up of over 30 boys, many making their professional acting debuts, including Ike Talbut as Simon, Thomas Connor as Roger, Noah & Cassius Flemyng as twins Sam and Eric, Cornelius Brandreth as Maurice, and Tom Page-Turner as Bill. The fresh faces are complemented by a team of acclaimed creators: the adaptation is written by Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials, Adolescence) and directed by Marc Munden (The Secret Garden, Never Let Me Go).
Adding to the immersive experience is the original music by Cristobal Tapia de Veer and Hans Zimmer, promising a score that will intensify the island’s tension and emotional stakes. Produced by BBC Drama, Eleven, One Shoe Films, and Sony Pictures Television, the series captures both the raw terror and the psychological drama of the novel.
The mini-series will debut on BBC iPlayer and Stan (Australia) on February 8, 2026, giving audiences a chance to revisit Golding’s chilling story in a visually rich and emotionally intense new form. With its combination of a gripping narrative, striking young cast, and expert creative team, this adaptation looks set to be a must-watch this year.
